Shanaka Kulathunga, born in 1981 is a MBBS Doctor by profession, a graduate from the Faculty of Medicine, Colombo. He has been practicing art since the time he left school and studied art at the Vibhavi Academy of Fine Art. His paintings are based on nature, portraits, and pencil drawings. Most of his paintings are acrylic, abstracts, water colour and charcoal, and to sum it up they are experimental. "I studied this specially under Chandragupta Thenuwara and in Vibhavi institute." Shanaka recalls his memories.
Paintings by Shanaka Kulathunga amply demonstrate his many-faceted gifts as a painter, due to his talents polished by his training under an eminent art guru and with his own gifts and training as a medical professional. Perhaps this combination makes him a very successful portrait painter in addition to his gift as a landscapist which have drawn attention from art lovers.
Sampath's work is constantly evolving. Experimental arts being Sampath's area of interest, he blends his imagination with different styles to bring out his themes. Sometimes he incorporates human figures and traditional designs into the background or he uses paint throws and prints to add more colour, at other times it's the scrape effect. As of late, he is experimenting with the use of various shapes and forms.
